Come Follow Me – A Journey Through Lent

Matthew 4:18-22

As we enter the season of Lent – a 40-day journey of Prayer, Fasting and Renewal I would like us to reflect on the words of Jesus, “Come Follow Me.” Each Wednesday a new scripture and devotion will be posted, and the church open for prayer over lunch hour.

To follow is to move or travel behind. It may seem like it was easier for the first disciples to travel behind Jesus as He was physically present. And yet the same invitation is given to us today.

We can still move or travel behind Jesus because He promised to send the Helper (John 16:7). The helper being the Holy Spirit, who would live in those who said yes to the invitation (John 14:16-17). Today we can follow Jesus with the help of The Holy Spirit who speaks through scripture and guides us each step of the way. The Holy Spirit transforms us from the inside out and enables us to live like Jesus.

As we enter this journey, I invite you to reflect on the following questions:

  1. How will I respond to Jesus invitation? How will this change/challenge me when I wake up to the resurrection story Easter 2021?

  2. Is there something in my life that keeps me from following - A habit, grudge, fear, prejudice, addiction……?

Prayer: “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.” Psalm 51:10-11
